Where it all began...

I grew up in a big family, where birthdays were always something to look forward to. There was always that little element of surprise, making someone feel special and celebrating them properly.

Some of my favourite childhood memories are actually the simplest ones. Friends coming round for birthdays, squirty cream covered in sprinkles, the excitement of everyone being together and those little details that made the day feel different from any other.

Family holidays were much the same. A big family, lots of noise and laughter, everyone together, and that wonderful feeling of being part of something.

I was lucky to grow up with parents who encouraged me, believed in me and were always my biggest cheerleaders. I think that feeling of being supported, celebrated and made to feel special stays with you.

Now, as a mum myself, I also understand how busy family life can be. There is always something to organise, somewhere to be and another thing on the to-do list.

That's one of the reasons I love what I do with Jesse + Boo. I want to give parents a little time back. Time to sit back, enjoy watching their children get completely absorbed in something creative, and actually be part of the moment rather than worrying about what comes next.

With more than 25 years of experience designing for children, Jesse + Boo brings together my love of children's design, my experience as a designer and those wonderful childhood memories of feeling celebrated, together and cared for.

For me, it's never just about the activity. It's about the little moments of surprise, the excitement of making something, the feeling of being celebrated and the memories that stay with you long after the day is over.

Jesse + Boo is my way of passing some of that feeling on.
